Premier League giant Arsenal appear to have been handed a big boost in their efforts to extend the contract of German Mesut Ozil.
Talks have been at a deadlock for several months over the a new contract.
The Arsenal playmaker of Turkish decent origin has been strongly linked with a transfer to Manchester United and Turkish club Besiktas over recent weeks.
Turkish sports outlet Fanatik asked Mesut Ozil’s agent Dr Erkut Sogut the latest update regarding interest from the Turkish League.
“[Mesut] Ozil wants to play another 2-3 years in the [English] Premier League,” Sogut said.
He confirmed talks withthe Gunners are ongoing regarding a new contract deal.
The Gunners face the possibility of losing both Mesut Ozil and Chilean Alexis Sanchez – who also has less than 12 months remaining on his contract – on a free transfer next campaign unless a new contract is agreed in January.
The Germany playmaker has come under heavy criticism this season after a below-par start to the season.
The 28-year-old midfield maestro has yet to grab a goal or provide an assist, although the former Real Madrid star has missed the past few matches with a knee injury.
He is expected to return to first-team action over the weekend against Watford over the weekend.
