With Sead Kolasinac signed and looking like a centre back may be signed this summer with various names already linked with us, it is obvious Arsenal needs to let one or two of their defenders go this summer. Already there have been talks of Calum Chambers going back to Southampton but another player who could yet leave is Kieran Gibbs who is said to be attracting interest from both West ham and Everton.
Gibbs who has been at Arsenal since he was 14 lost his place in the first teamo Nacho Monreal and although Monreal could play next season as one of the three centre backs, the preference of Sead Kolasinac and the likelihood that a centre back is signed means his chances in the first team next season will be even much more reduced.
Hence it makes sense that Arsenal are trying to shift him on especially when you consider the amount of money he reportedly earns. According to reports, he is currently on a £60,000 a week wage package which for me is too much for a player as inconsistent as Gibbs.
For £60,000 a week, Arsenal can certainly get a player who will contribute to the first team much more than Gibbs is doing at the minute. A transfer out of the club will be good for both players. Arsenal will have some more money they can spend on better players and Gibbs will get a new start which his career so much needs.
The only worry now is that the likes of Everton and West Ham who are said to be interested in him may find it difficult to accommodate his wage demands which could in turn me Arsenal will have to sell him on the cheap just to get rid of him.
