According to the Sun, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is said to be closely monitoring Napoli and Belgium international star Dries Mertens as replacement for the potentially exiting current Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez,.
The Chile international forward, who almost secured a transfer to Premier League side Manchester City on summer transfer deadline day, is set to be able to depart the North London club for free at the end of the season once his current contract with the Emirate club has expired, as reported by the Sun, with the club eyeing up Belgian Mertens as a replacement for the City target.
Dries Mertens, according to a report by the Sun, has been in brilliant form for Italian Serie A side Napoli recently, with the Belgian’s speed, intelligent moves and ability makes him the perfect replacement for the departing Alexis Sanchez should the South-American playmaker move to another club in the summer.
The 30 year old, reportedly had a €30million buyout clause in his Napoli deal as reported by Calcio Mercato, which should the Gunners activate, would prove a complete bargain signing for Arsene Wenger’s team.
If Arsenal are to replace Alexis Sanchez with the Belgian, it’ll be interesting to see how the attacker would perform in the Premier League.
