England manager Gareth Southgate has invited Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere and forward Danny Welbeck for England’s friendly matches against the Netherlands on 23 March and Italy on 27 March.
Many football experts expected Jack Wilshere to be included in the squad but a few eyebrows have been raised about former Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck being called up as he’s hardly been performing well for Arsenal.
With places at the FIFA World Cup up for grabs, the duo will be keen to impress Southgate, as it stands, there are few players who are sure to be on the plane to Russia for the Mundial.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has also been invited for Three Lions duty. He has been named in England’s U21 team by manager Aidy Boothroyd. The U21s play Romania in a friendly match before a European Championships qualifying game against Ukraine.
