Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims Chilean Alexis Sanchez has been left out of Gunners squad for Saturday’s fixture against Watford due to a slight injury worry.
The 28-year-old attacker was unable to help his country Chile secure FIFA World Cup qualification during last Weekend international break and at his pre-match presser on Thursday, Arsene Wenger declared he would re-check on the former Barcelona attacker’s mental strength.
Alexis Sanchez trained with the group on Friday but has been deemed unfit enough to feature and was not even named among the Matchday substitutes, along with Welshman Aaron Ramsey who played for this National team in midweek.
Arsene Wenger said: ‘Both (Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez) had muscular problem they are not very bad ones but too short for today’s clash.’
German Mesut Ozil, who missed the Gunners two most recent English Premier League games and Germany’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a knee problem, does return to the bench, while German defender Per Mertesacker making his first English Premier League start for 532 days as a result of Shkodran Mustafi’s injury.
England striker Danny Welbeck returns to the Matchday starting line-up following his own groin problem, while France international striker Alexandre Lacazette starts in attack in preference to country mate Olivier Giroud.
