Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina handed Paraguay the win on Thursday with two big blunders late in the match that now leave his National team Colombia’s FIFA World Cup hopes in major doubt.
His team took the lead deep into the second 45 minutes through Premier League flop Radamel Falcao, a goal that would have guaranteed the side’s place in next summer’s World Cup and taken them to second place in the qualifying log. But in the 89th minute of the encounter, Arsenal’s David Ospina committed a massive error, coming off his goalkeeping line to try and safe a high, optimistic cross into the penalty box but only spilt it into the path of a Paraguayan forward.
As the goalkeeper tried to recover and return to his line, he ended up falling to the ground, powerless to stop Oscar Cardozo from equalizing. But things got worse minutes later, in the second minute of additional time, when David Ospina failed to catch properly a low cross into the penalty area box, palming it straight to Sanabria Antonio who found the back of an empty net.
While Ospina looked around helplessly, his country teammate and north London rival Davinson Sanchez was seen screaming furiously as Paraguay ran away with the victory.
