Thats what Gunners legend Martin Keown who described the striker as a ‘special talent’.
The North London side were held to a disappointing goalless draw at home to Sporting in the Europa League last night.
The point means the Gunners have qualified for the knockout stages,
Aubameyang has an impressive record of 17 goals in 23 Premier League appearances for Arsenal.
And Keown believes the Gabon international resembles the club’s leading all-time goalscorer.
“He’s the closest thing to Thierry Henry I’ve seen since he left the football club,” he told BT Sport. “He really is that good.
“Someone should be in his camp pushing him on, drawing the performances out of him, because he’s a special talent.
“He scores a lot of goals. It’s just a hunger. But I don’t think he was there tonight.”
Welbeck reportedly suffered a broken ankle in what appeared to be an innocuous first-half challenge.
Aubameyang replaced him and hit the side netting with a good chance, but failed ultimately to break the deadlock.
“The challenge was that Sporting had no shots on goal and it was all on Arsenal trying to break down the opposition,” he said.
“And Aubameyang really let them down in front of goal.
“He should have taken his chances tonight. He’s a player I rate really very highly.
“He was taken off against Liverpool, he wasn’t happy about that, and with the injury tonight it caught him out as much as anyone else.
“He didn’t seem ready, mentally. On another night he’d have put his chances away. It didn’t quite come off for him.”
