Arsene Wenger believes Mesut Ozil is willing to be part of his team beyond this League season and says that talks about his future are going smoothly.
The German has less than a year remaining on his current deal which means that he has the right to negotiate with another team from January and will depart next summer for nothing if a new contract is not agreed before then.
However, the French tactician says the former Real Madrid attacker is still one of the best footballers in the world and he wants to remain at the Emirates Stadium. He said as cited by Sky Sports
“I cannot tell you what is in his mind. I genuinely think he wants to stay, but I am always positive about that. We live in the world where people have opinions and sometimes they are right and sometimes they are not always proven right on the longer period…”
Despite heavy criticism, the midfielder has faced this campaign, he has assisted 23 goals and made 41 assists in 121 English Premier League appearances for the Premier League side.
The FIFA World Cup winner joined the North London club in 2013 for a record transfer fee of £42.5million and has won three English FA cups with Arsenal.
