After the early season troubles of losing to Premier League rivals Liverpool and Stoke, Arsene Wenger’s men have settled properly again in the English Premier League. They certainly haven’t thrashed teams like the Manchester team but they have managed to get the much-needed results to head in the right direction. Similarly, they secured the result over Premier League new boys Brighton at the Emirates Stadium amid a very tedious long week for Arsenal.
An early goal from defender Nacho Monreal and a good finish from forward Alex Iwobi in the second 45 minutes was enough to see off the Premier League new comers on a comfortable Sunday. Here’s how the Gunners players have been rated in their victory over Brighton & Hove.
GK: Petr Cech – 7/10
He dealt well with crosses or corners. The clean-sheet earned is obviously a positive.
RWB: Hector Bellerin – 7/10
He busted forward quiet well occasionally and his delivery was really good this afternoon. Troubled by Izquierdo but the defender dealt with him nicely.
CB: Rob Holding – 6/10
He was well composed and showed no signs of tiredness after playing in the UEFA Europa League just this Thursday.
CB: Shkodran Mustafi – 6.5/10
The German had a comfortable match and dealt with Brighton forwards easily. He was however tested after Murray came on from the bench but he was well focused and solid. Got beaten once in the air but that was it.
CB: Nacho Monreal – 7/10
Scored a rare goal early in the match and settled into the match well. He was no way complacent.
LWB: Saed Kolasinac – 7.5/10
Ran down the left flank effortlessly and dealt well with Sully March as well. At the end, he was rather unlucky to have gotten something in terms of the end product but can take some positives from this outing.
CM: Granit Xhaka – 6.5/10
He was rather comfortable on the ball and controlled the midfield properly. He tidied up well today and got the job done.
AM: Aaron Ramsey – 6/10
The Welshman had a great effort denied by Goalkeeper Ryan and later showed a bit of rustiness and sloppiness. Should work harder on his finishing.
RF: Alex Iwobi – 6.5/10
Patrolled down the right hand flank well but often guilty of keeping hold of the ball for too long. Scored after a glorious backheel from Alexis Sanchez. Well rewarded for his efforts.
LF: Alexis Sanchez – 8/10
Dribbled and dazzled past the defence severally and fought hard for the team. Although gave away possession sometimes, but provided a lovely assist after assisting with a special backheel.
ST: Alexandre Lacazette – 5.5/10
Rated rather averagely today and had his chances to find the back of the net but some were blocked and didn’t do justice to some through balls. Unlucky hit the woodwork with such a smashing shot in the early stages of the match.
FW: Olivier Giroud – 5.5/10
The Frenchman made some noticeable contributions on the air but nothing great was done otherwise.
RF: Theo Walcott – 5/10
The Englishman replaced Alex Iwobi and didn’t make any impact at all.
CM: Mohamed Elneny – N/A
The Egyptian midfielder came on very late.
