Controversial Arsenal star set to be fit for Chile’s important World Cup qualifier with Ecuador after returning to training

Chile international Alexis Sanchez is set to play a part in Chile’s FIFA World Cup qualifier with South American neighbours Ecuador.

The Gunner star was an injury concern for Tomorrow’s all important clash after linking up with his international colleagues with a muscle problem.

The forward did not train on Monday, instead was worked upon by medics as he recovered from Arsenal’s victory over Brighton on Sunday afternoon.

But Alexis Sanchez joined the squad for Tuesday’s training session and looks to begin in the must-win clash.

Chilean are sixth placed in the South American qualifying log and need victories from their last two games, against Ecuador and then Brazil to stand any chance of going through.

Only the top four sides automatically qualify for next summer’s World cup in Russia with the team in fifth place facing a double-legged play-off tie against New Zealand.

South American giant Argentina have the edge but their host Peru, who are currently occupying the fourth position, before a fixture in Ecuador.

Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi said his team will fight, and will make the greatest effort possible, as they believe that they have the ability to compete favourably with the best and will try to get the results that allow the team to qualify.
