South American starlet Matias Vargas has revealed he would choose Arsenal over other European giants in comments made to Argentine television.
Unai Emery’s ears may have been pricked by comments from Argentine starlet Matias Vargas, who has explained why he would choose to join Arsenal over the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich in comments made to Argentine television.
The 21-year-old winger currently plies his trade for Velez Sarsfield in his homeland and impressed enough to earn a call-up to the national side last month, suggesting that he could become the latest prospect to leave South America for a big-money move to Europe.
Asked which club he would prefer to join out of Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool or Real Madrid, Vargas replied by simply stating ‘The Arsenal’, before being pressed for reasons as to why.
The 21-year-old explained that his father influenced him to follow the Gunners and he ‘likes the identity’ of the North London side, while also reportedly being told by Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero there is a ‘beautiful atmosphere’ at the club.
Capable of playing centrally or wide on the left, Matias Vargas could be considered by Arsenal as an option to bolster their ranks in the wide positions following the loss of Alexis Sanchez in January – as that exit left the Gunners lacking depth.
Unai Emery currently has just Alex Iwobi as a recognised winger amongst his senior squad and, despite the improvements shown by the Nigeria international this season, may seek new additions in January to ease the burden on their academy graduate.
