According to reports, Premier League giant Arsenal were reportedly prepared to cash in on England international Jack Wilshere to Turkish side Trabzonspor in exchange for midfielder Yusuf Yazici.
The 25 years old Arsenal star was strongly linked with a transfer away from Wenger’s team back in the summer after returning from his loan spell at AFC Bournemouth.
Trabzonspor were keen on signing the injury-prone midfielder after president Muharrem Usta confirmed they were close to signing him on a season-long loan.
But he said that the transfer stalled at the very last minute with Jack Wilshere deciding to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Turkish publication Haberturk claim things could have been a lot different for the Englishman had Trabzonspor accepted the Gunner’s surprise bid.
Arsenal tactician Arsene Wenger is apparently an admirer of the Turkish team’s star man Yazici, who netted six goals and made 10 assists in the Turkish Super Lig last campaign.
It is said Wenger offered them £14.4m for his services as he looked to strengthen his midfield options.
But the news outlet say Jack Wilshere was included as part of the exchange deal, with the Gunners offering him to incease the £9million fee for Yazici up to £14.4million.
However, Trabzonspor turned down their proposal as they reckon Yazici is worth not less than £18million.
