Arsene Wenger appears to be closer to sealing another important deal heading into the January transfer window.
The Arsenal manager was responsible for the acquisitions of several new players to strengthen his squad during the summer.
But another task for Wenger to take care of is making sure that key players within the side commit their future to the club.
Olivier Giroud, who joined Arsenal from Montpellier in a £9.6 million deal four years ago, is one of the stars being linked with a move elsewhere as he runs down his contract at the Emirates stadium.
However, the Frenchman has now admitted he is set to sign a new deal with Arsenal which will bring an end to speculation claiming he could say goodbye to the club after losing his starting spot to Alexis Sanchez this season.
“People have been saying I have signed a new contract, but that is not true. Maybe soon, though,” Giroud said as quoted by Goal.
“I came back a bit late from the Euros and it was nice for my body because I could rest but not good for me because the team was doing well and another striker was doing well up front.
“This season has been difficult because also I was injured for a month and a half so it has not been easy.”
