Nigerian International Alexander Iwobi has revealed what head coach Unai Emery has done to improve his form at Arsenal (via The Guardian).
There were more than a few North London club fans who doubted his ability in recent seasons but Alex Iwobi has really proved them wrong this term.
The Nigerian international has been one of the best-performing players in an Arsenal team which was won ten consecutive matches in all competitions.
Iwobi,22, put in another good performance on Monday night when the Gunners beat Leicester City 3-1 at the Emirates and has now revealed what head coach Unai Emery has done to inspire this upturn in form.
“The manager has imposed a new style and we are enjoying our time,”Iwobi said.
“We are enjoying each other and the chemistry is good – it’s not just the people who are starting but those on the bench, as well. It’s a team thing and we are all enjoying it.
“The manager has just given me the confidence to express myself and to believe in my ability, which I have been trying to show. In training, too, he is always letting me try new things – be positive, be direct and prove it in the games. It is working for me so I just have to keep it going.
“Do I feel like a better player than a year ago? I’d just say I am more confident. I feel that even if I make a mistake, I am able to go again. I think that is the difference between me last year and this year.”
That last section is interesting. Alex Iwobi doesn’t think that he is a better player, just that he is playing with more confidence now than he was last year. Whatever the reason why, Iwobi has been excellent this year and will be looking to continue that on Thursday night.
