Nigeria international marksman Chuba Akpom says they banter about his Arsenal and Chile star Alexis Sanchez’s failed transfer to Premier League rivals Manchester City on deadline day this summer.
The 21-year-old forward, who was given birth to in England, said that Arsenal stars and supporters are glad the highly-rated Chilean international is still an Arsenal player.
The Chilean’s proposed transfer the former English Premier League champions failed to materialize because the gunners could not sign a perfect replacement at short notice.
The North London club failed to bring in their long-term French target Thomas Lemar from Ligue 1 giants Monaco.
”We (players) do banter about it (the failed transfer) to be fair,” Akpom told Daily Star.
”But at the end, he (Sanchez) is still an Arsenal (player). Everyone (players and fans) are happy, the fans are glad and he’s delighted.
”I (Akpom) think with a player like (Alexis) Sanchez he just blocks (the transfer) it out because all he wants (to do) is play football,” the striker, who is born to Nigerian parent, continued.
”He (Sanchez) is so focused on (playing) football, he (Sanchez) blocks out a lot of negativity (failed transfer) and transfer speculations.”
