Charlie Nicholas believes that Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has more technical attribute than Swiss star Granit Xhaka and could still be a key player for the Gunners.
The England international midfielder played the entire duration for the Gunners for the very first time in about three years during the 1-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in the League Cup third round. With Wilshere back and playing pretty well in the red and white colours of Arsenal, some are wondering if he should be kept around as a squad player.
Charlie Nicholas is one of those people who feels that even if Jack Wilshere never returns to his former level, he is still technically better than Granit Xhaka, Egyptian Mohamed Elneny, and Francis Coquelin.
Besides Nicholas’ apparent reservation of Xhaka, Jack Wilshere probably would offer more to Wenger’s team than midfield duo of Elneny and Coquelin, at least from an attacking point of view.
The 25-year-old’s attacking attributes have been in doubt. Fitness has always been his biggest problems and might continue to be.
However, the duo of Elneny and Coquelin do bring qualities to the side that Jack Wilshere does not, and shouldn’t be forgotten just because they are not as easy as it seems. Their defensive attributes are useful.
Jack Wilshere’s next match for the Gunners will likely be on Thursday when Wenger’s team travel to take on BATE Borisov in the UEFA Europa League.
