Despite the number of injuries picked up by some first team players, Arsene Wenger still has a very large squad to pick his team from.
However, the Gunners have been boosted by the return of Captain Mertesacker, who has been missing in action since the summer due to a knee injury.
He’s been off in his native Germany, trying to get back to full fitness.
Now the 32-year-old looks to be closing in on a return after he posted a hopeful message on Twitter.
He wrote: “It’s been a long road but feels so amazing to be back training properly with the @Arsenal boys again and I feel great! #AVeryHappyBFG”
Mertesacker’s return could be a shot in the arm for Arsene Wenger’s side as early season standout Shkodran Mustafi has been ruled out for around three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury.
Mertesacker could in be in the running to partner Laurent Koscielny against Manchester City on Sunday.
