North London club Arsenal will lock horns with Premier League new boys Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon without star playmaker Mesut Ozil.
The Germany international midfielder remains sidelined with an injury problem, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger expects the former Real Madrid playmaker to return after next weekends international break.
Notwithstanding Mesut Ozil’s injury setback, there was some positive injury news for the Arsenal tactician though as Nigeria international forward Alex Iwobi trained on Saturday morning with the team.
The Arsenal forward Iwobi missed the away trip to the Eastern European Nation of Belarus where the Gunners played BATE Borisov in the UEFA Europa League, but seems to be strongly involved in some capacity against newboys Brighton & Hove Albion.
France international defender Laurent Koscielny underwent medical fitness tests at the North London club’s training base to determine his level of fitness.
Talking to newsmen ahead of the encounter, Arsene Wenger said: “We [Arsenal] have a doubt about Laurent [Koscielny], unfortunately and the defender will have a [fitness] test.
“It is an achilles injury, it is ongoing. I [Wenger] think everybody [all other players] else should be available [for the match].
“defender Sead Kolasinac had some issues, but he is available [for selection]. That’s basically it [the situation].”
Brighton & Hove Albion will be without star striker Tomer Hemed for the Premier League trip to the Emirates Stadium.
The Brighton striker is suspended for the encounter following his stamp on Newcastles DeAndre Yedlin during the victory over the Premier League returnees last weekend.
