Arsene Wenger expects more from Nigerian Alex Iwobi, suggesting the attacker needs to improve his goal scoring and assist-making.
The 21-year-old winger is looking to win back his position in the Arsenal first team after a hard end to last term. He started the last season well, but faded away as the months went by. Arsene Wenger, though, reminded people that Alex Iwobi is a top young talent and that there’s a lot more to come from the nigerian.
Alex Iwobi had a decent pre-season, netting against Bundesliga giant Bayern Munich and Portuguese side Benfica, and recently started in the goalless draw against Premier League Champions Chelsea. His only other English Premier League match appearance came as a substitute in the 1-0 loss at Stoke City. He started in the opening UEFA Europa League match against German Bundesligs side Cologne.
The Nigerian scored just four goals in 38 matches last campaign.
Alex Iwobi emerged as a proficient and intelligent attacker when he was just 19 and is seen as the direct deputy to Germany international Mesut Ozil. He has featured in 11 matches for Nigeria, scoring his first goal for the Super Eagles last year against Zambia.
