AS Monaco ace Youri Tielemans has said he turned down a transfer to Arsenal during the last summer transfer window in a bid to secure more playing time with the French Ligue 1 champions.
The 20-year-old midfielder was a subject of several transfer interest from a number of clubs in Europe with the Premier League giants like Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all strongly linked with transfers for the midfielder who ended up signing for AS Monaco in a £22million transfer.
Tielemans feels he will do well and improve his game playing at the Stade Louis II rather than Emirate Stadium due to the number of quality footballers in the current midfield set-up at the Emirates Stadium.
Talking about his stance to join AS Monaco, the Belgian said he knew signing for Arsenal will not bring him much change due to the club’s stance to keep some of the first team players in order to contend with their Premier League rivals.
The midfield maestro who was also a target for United manager Jose Mourinho also disclosed that he ‘never said no to any side’ but chose his current team to have more first-team playing opportunities.
Despite rumour over Arsenal’s transfer businesses during the last summer window, Wenger was unable to sign a new player to his midfield with the future of stars like Jack Wilshere, Egyptian Mohammed Elneny and German Mesut Ozil in the balance.
