Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be without unsettled Mesut Ozil and could also be deprived of defender Laurent Koscielny when Premier League new boys Brighton visit the Emirates this weekend.
Germany international midfielder Mesut Ozil is unavailable and French defender Laurent Koscielny is doubtful for Arsenal’s English Premier League game at home to newboys Brighton on Sunday.
Mesut Ozil missed the 4-2 UEFA Europa League win at BATE Borisov on Thursday night, having featured only seven minutes of Monday night’s 2-0 league victory over West Bromwich Albion as a late substitute.
The 28-year-old attacker, who missed the Premier League draw with Premier League Champions Chelsea and Carabao Cup win over Doncaster Rovers due to knee problem, has been dropped from the Germany squad for next month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Arsene Wenger disclosed that Mesut Ozil’s injury is “very short-term”, but the Brighton fixture will come too early for him.
The French tactician confirmed defender Francis Coquelin (hamstring) and England international Danny Welbeck (hip) remain sidelined, but cleared to play is Sead Kolasinac and suggested Nigerian Alex Iwobi could feature.
Wenger also said Laurent Koscielny, who was suspended for the UEFA Europa League match in Eastern Europe country of Belarus, is in doubt for the visit of the newly promoted side to Emirates.
