The only breakthrough Arsenal have had so far in terms of contract extension is in the deal of young Spaniard Hector Bellerin.
Given his meteoric and unprecedented rise, the 21-year old has become fan’s-favorite at Arsenal, which is partly why he’s rejected advances of Barcelona and Manchester City to remain at the Emirates.
Bellerin recently committed his future to Arsenal and was given a significant pay rise. Reports have indicated that he’s currently being paid what his suitors are offering him.
Pep Guardiola was a huge fan of Bellerin and did all he could to lure the youngster to the Etihad Stadium for much of this year.
However, Bellerin’s undying loyalty to Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger persuaded him to stay, with the 21-year-old grateful to the Gunners boss for his show of faith in him since he made his debut just two years ago.
Taking a swipe at how Fabregas, Nasri and other former Arsenal player have fared outside Arsenal, Bellerin was not convinced his career would blossom under another coach now, according to the Guardian.
Bellerin’s rise has been compared to that of Fabregas in his Arsenal days, though it seems the defender has learned lessons from the Chelsea man’s dip since turning his back on the north London giants.
