Summer signing Lucas Torreira has made a huge impact during his short time at Arsenal.
The diminutive Uruguay international arrived in the summer from Sampdoria and the signing was met with real excitement amongst the Arsenal fanbase, especially following his impressive performances at the World Cup.
And Torreira has already proved to be a huge hit with the Arsenal supporters, who have already welcomed him with his own chant – one that has been gaining in popularity in recent weeks.
It was sung with real gusto at Fulham before the international break and then on Monday night – as Arsenal beat Leicester 3-1 to make it 10 wins in a row in all competitions – the chant rang around the Emirates time and time again.
Similar to what the Arsenal fans used to sing for ex-captain Patrick Vieira, the song goes:
“Torreira ohh, Torreira woaahh
“He comes from Uruguay, he’s only five foot five,
“Torreira ohh, Torreira woaahh.”
While Mesut Ozil took most of the plaudits for his magical display on Monday night and Alex Iwobi walked away with the man of the match award, Torreira was excellent in the second half and played a huge part in keeping Leicester pinned in their own half.
It was another example of why he is already rated so highly by Arsenal fans and the 22-year-old is clearly loving life in north London – and he is certainly loving his new song.
He took to social media after the win against the Foxes and posted a video of the chant being sung along with a message thanking the fans for their support.
The win moved Arsenal back into the top four and just two points adrift of leaders Manchester City, but Unai Emery was playing down talk of a title bid.
