Nacho Monreal (hamstring), Sead Kolasinac (hamstring), Hector Bellerin (muscle) and Sokratis (ankle) will all be assessed ahead the visit of Liverpool on Saturday.

With Matteo Guendouzi (suspended) and Mohamed Elneny (thigh) also unavailable, Granit Xhaka – who started at left-back in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace – may be required to return to the double pivot alongside Lucas Torreira, though Aaron Ramsey is of course another (more attack-minded) option in the engine room.

If Xhaka returns to midfield and Monreal and Kolasinac remain unavailable, Emery could turn to Stephan Lichtsteiner to plug the hole at left-back as he did against Leicester City – although the veteran Swiss defender may be needed to deputise for Bellerin on the opposite flank if the Arsenal right-back fails to recover.

The fit-again Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Carl Jenkinson are long shots to fill in at full-back. Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alex Iwobi were either rested completely or used only as late substitutes against Blackpool in midweek, so it is assumed that the attacking quartet will be back in the starting XI for the match against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
