Paul Merson has slammed Arsenal for their treatment of Aaron Ramsey as he labels them ‘pathetic’, according to the Mirror.
The Welshman looks set to leave the Emirates at the end of the season when his contract expires after the Gunners refused to renew his current deal.
The 27-year-old had been offered a new deal by the club to extend his stay, only for them to withdraw the deal at the last minute.
He has since been told by the club that the contract was withdrawn because he is deemed surplus to requirements under new manager Unai Emery.
However, Merson who turned out for the Gunners during his playing days is against the actions of his former club.
According to his piece on the Daily Star, he wondered how the club would let a player of such caliber leave the team on a free.
“Arsenal are pathetic for the way they’ve treated Aaron Ramsey – and he could be playing for Liverpool soon instead of against them.” He wrote.
“I don’t understand what my old club are doing. How can you let a player that good run down his contract like this? It’s a nonsense.
“It makes no financial sense to lose him on a free so they might as well sell him for whatever they can get now in January.
“If Liverpool want him they might as well do a deal now. He would fit in there and he would help them challenge for the title.”
